OUR
CONCEPT

An Immersion in All Things Einstein
The unique three-in one approach of the Albert Einstein Discovery Center Ulm will give visitors an appreciation of the man and his work, his impact on contemporary life and a hands-on chance to build on his discoveries.

I. History

From his birth in Ulm in 1879 to his death in Princeton, New Jersey, in 1955, Albert Einstein took the road less traveled. Our exhibits will not only contain the many highlights of his career that made him one of the most famous and familiar faces around the globe, but also his dramatic personal struggles with family, religion, persecution, pacifism and war. It will include little known stories, such as how he helped relatives of his escape the Holocaust in a journey across Russia and China to find safety in San Francisco. Einstein was a meme before the word was invented, and the exhibits will show how he became ubiquitous, popping up everywhere from Beatles album covers to movie comedies to streaming TV series to music designed to make your baby smarter.

II. Impact Today

The best ideas that make amusement parks, video games and virtual reality entertaining and exciting will be used to show how Einstein’s discoveries led to amazing things that we take for granted in our everyday life. Many of the exhibits will be interactive. As visitors, especially children, enjoy themselves by playing, they will learn more about gravitation, matter, space and time – and how Einstein’s work led others to come up with countless ways that affect us, especially in the areas of satellite navigation and GPS.

III. Discovery

The AEDC Ulm Science Center is for future generations to continue the work Einstein started. To further our goal of interesting young people – of all ages, sexes and cultures – in careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), nearly 300 work stations and exhibits are planned. With guidance by experts, students will be encouraged to independently study and experiment in the areas where Einstein made contributions, such as light, energy,  time and gravitation. There will be workshops and live science shows highlighting the latest scientific breakthroughs as they occur. While the emphasis will be on youth, adult participation will also be part of the Science Center.

Relaxation

It won’t be under the same roof, but visitors will also enjoy a fourth benefit — the surroundings of the Albert Einstein Discovery Center Ulm. The Center is situated in the heart of the city of Ulm, recognized as a “royal domain” since the year 854. Visitors arriving at the train station will be able to walk to the AEDC Ulm and, when they want a break from science, they can stroll the ancient streets of Ulm and visit its charming shops and pleasant restaurants. If they want exercise, they can climb the 768 steps to the top of the Ulm Münster, similar to a cathedral,  the fifth tallest structure in the world built before the 20th century and at present the tallest church in the world.
